Gain^® Horse Feeds at the 30th Annual Point to Point Awards

Following on from the exciting Gain^® Mares point to point race series, Gain^® were delighted to be prominent sponsors, one again, of the annual Point to Point awards. The 30th Annual Point to Point Awards was held in Whites Hotel, Wexford on the 13th June.

The 2008-09 season will be a year which will be reflected on for many years to come; 2 riders past the 500th career winner mark (J T McNamara and Derek O’Connor), 1 rider rode his 200th winner (M J O’Connor), 1 rider rode his 100th winner (R O Harding), 1 rider rode 100 winners in the season and then the spring season and the same man became the 4th rider ever to ride 6 winners in one day, (Derek O’Connor). In all there were 14 awards which were given to 13 different winners, only one title was divided and 8 award winners were collecting for the first time.

Mikey O’Connor took the southern title for the second year in succession, again in a close fought battle with Derek O’Connor. Jamie Codd has had a remarkable season and even though he missed 21 days through injury he still managed to ride more winners than any other jockey other than Derek O’Connor, he took the Eastern title for the fourth time. Even though Derek O’Connor won the overall championship last season he was unable to secure any regional award but this year he managed two regions. He recorded a record when taking the northern region, 40 winners which smashed the former record of 28 and in so doing was 24 clear of his nearest rival. He also secured the Western region with a total of 20 wins 5 ahead of J T McNamara, the 10 time winner of this region. As ever Gain^® sponsored all the above awards and this year it was left to Niall Hannity and Ken Whelan to present the awards.
