Bumper Festive Period for GAIN^® Racehorses (8/1/2010)

Over the Festive Season, National Hunt Racing is often the highlight for many horse enthusiasts and despite the poor weather conditions and the cancellation of some meetings there was plenty of top class racing on offer this Christmas.

Great victories in Leopardstown were scored by Sizing Europe, trained by Waterford based Henry de Bromhead and the exciting Solwhit trained by Charles Byrnes, ridden by Davy Russell. Noel Meade’s charges Hollo Ladies and Pandorama secured double Grade 1 success for his in form yard while Colm Murphy saw his mare Voler La Vedette under Paul Townend claim Listed honours amongst others from his Wexford base. Christy Roche also enjoyed success at the venue courtesy of the Tony Mc Coy ridden Swordfish.

County Tipperary Trainers were in form with both Edward O’Grady and Mouse Morris recording several wins between them at multiple venues. Rigour Back Bob, Slieve Darragh and Fen Game scoring for the former and Scavenger, Baily Rock and Beckett Rock for the latter.

Limerick was the scene for the success of Dancing Tornado trained locally by Michael Hourigan in the Grade 2 Novice S’chase on St. Stephens Day. Four Chimneys, the charge of Willie Austin proved his stamina winning twice at the Greenmount venue over the Festival. Victories were also recorded here by Native Clan (Arthur Moore), Quiamo Malta, Ach Aye Surely (Paul Nolan), In Close (James Leavy) and Tullintain (Robert Tyner).

As one year finished and a new one rang in, Tramore was the venue for celebration for trainer Eoin Doyle as he sent out no fewer than four winners in two days, the highlight being success in the Waterford and Tramore Racecourse Listed Steeplechase for The Fonze ridden by Shay Barry.
